Professor Gavriel Salvendy received the 2006 John Fritz Medal
Professor Gavriel
Salvendy has received the 2006 John Fritz Medal from the American Association
of Engineering Societies for fundamental, international, and seminal leadership
and technical contributions to human engineering and industrial engineering
education, theory, and practice. This award, established in honor of John Fritz
in 1902, is the engineering profession's highest award. Salvendy joins such
past recipients as Alexander Graham Bell, Thomas Edison, Alfred Nobel, and
Orville Wright. Professor Salvendy is the first person from the Institute of
Industrial Engineering to receive this award.
The American
Association of Engineering Societies is a multidisciplinary organization of
engineering societies dedicated to advancing the knowledge, understanding, and
practice of engineering. Members represent engineers in industry, government,
and academia.
Professor Salvendy's
area of research involves human factors and ergonomics, and human aspects of
information technology. His contributions and research to the discipline of
industrial engineering and his research in human factors and ergonomics have
been adopted in countries around the world. He is a member of the National
Academy of Engineering, is the founding editor of two scientific journals: the
International Journal on Human-Computer Interaction and Human Factors and
Ergonomics in Manufacturing, the HCI International and International conference
on Applied Human Factors and Ergonomics. Congratulations

HCI International
2007 promises to be an unforgettable event
HCI International
2007 and its ten affiliated Conferences / Thematic Areas, the worldwide
renowned international forum for the dissemination and exchange of up–to–date
scientific information on theoretical, generic and applied areas of Human
Computer Interaction (HCI), invite you to Beijing, P.R. China, and 22–27 July
2007.
HCI International
2007 promises to be an unforgettable cluster of high quality international
scientific events, and an ideal occasion to come to contact with the most
rapidly evolving ICT market in the world. It is expected that HCI International
2007 will attract over 2,000 participants.

services, presented by many exhibitors from all over the world.
In conjunction with
the conference, 20 pre–conference half–day and full–day tutorials will be
offered on HCI related topics by leading researcher scientists and
technologists.
Dr. Takeo Kanade,
U.A. and Helen Whitaker University Professor of Computer Science and Robotics
from Carnegie Mellon University, USA and founding director of the Digital Human
Research Center, National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology,
Tokyo, Japan, will be the keynote speaker at the opening ceremony on Tuesday,
July 24th, 2007. The title of his keynote address is "Digital Human

AHFE International 2008, 2nd International Conference on Applied Human Factors and Ergonomics
14-17 July 2008. Caesars Palace, Las Vegas, USA
You are cordially invited to participate in AHFE International 2008 and the
affiliated HAAMAHA conference, which are jointly held under one management and
one registration. The conference objective is to provide an international forum
for the dissemination and exchange of scientific information on theoretical,
generic, and applied areas of ergonomics, including physical ergonomics,
cognitive ergonomics, social and organizational ergonomics, ergonomics modeling
and usability evaluation, healthcare and special populations, safety and
ergonomics in manufacturing. This will be accomplished through the following
six modes of communication: keynote presentation, parallel sessions,

Warning Symposium and Forensic Issues Symposiums at AHFE International 2008
The organizing committee of the 2nd International Conference on Applied
Ergonomics (July 14-17, 2008, Caesars Palace, Las Vegas, NV, USA) is pleased to
announce the following two symposia.
(1) Warning
Symposium (Chaired by Mike Wogalter and Chris Mayhorn) will have lecture and
panel sessions on topics associated with hazard communications for
environments, consumer products, medical devices, industrial equipment. Research on theory/principles, pictorial
symbols, format, content, context, person and situational variables, and other
related topics are welcomed for submission.
Contact Mike Wogalter (WogalterM@aol.com) or Chris Mayhorn
(Chris_Mayhorn@NCSU.edu) to suggest programming and for more information.
(2) Forensic Issues
Symposium (Chaired by Ken Laughery and Mike Wogalter) will have sessions that
provide viewpoints of HF/E practitioners doing forensic work. Empirical data collected in relation to
forensic investigations are particularly welcomed. One or two sessions may include case studies given by expert
witnesses in an abbreviated structured format.
Also under consideration is a "Tips of the Trade"
demonstration session where example testimony is read aloud by persons playing
the roles of attorney and expert, followed by commentary. Contact Ken Laughery (Laugher@Rice.edu) or
Mike Wogalter (WogalterM@aol.com) to suggest programming and for more
information.
Sessions of both symposia will be interwoven in a non-overlapping sequence at the meeting. The regular AHFEI
2008 submission process will
be used. An abstract of about 800 words
should be submitted through the web (www.AEI2008.org) by the October 15, 2007
deadline. When Submittingthe proposal,
please indicate that the submission is for the Warnings or Forensic Issues
symposia. Short formatted papers are
due March 1, 2008. These will be
compiled into a conference CD-ROM with an ISBN designation. An additional opportunity to submit an
enhanced version of accepted papers for a special issue of a scholarly refereed
journal may be offered shortly after the meeting.
