1st International Conference on The Human Side of Service Engineering,

Humans are involved in all aspects of the delivery of almost all services by service systems and organizations. We design the systems and their interfaces with staff and customers, we train and provide the servers, we even train the customers to use the systems and monitor the customer's interaction and opinions of the services received to the extent possible. We measure the performance of service systems in terms of the customer's overall experience. If there is any one element to the engineering of service systems that is unique, it is the extent to which the suitability of the system for human use, human service, and excellent human experience has been, and must always be considered.

The 1st International Conference on the Human Side of Service Engineering will explore the wide range of ways in which Human Factors Engineering, Ergonomics, Human Computer Interaction (HCI), Usability Testing, Attitude and Opinion Assessment, Servicescape Designs and Evaluations, Cognitive Engineering, Psychometrics, Training for Service Delivery, Co-Production, Service Levels and Cost Effectiveness, Call Center Engineering, Customer Support Engineering, and many other possible areas relate to and impact the Engineering and Management of Service organizations. Tracks or Sessions relating to the Human Side of Service Engineering as pertaining to Health Care organizations, Aviation, Hospitality, Entertainment, Banking and Finance, and Government at all levels, along with many other fields may be designed and included.
The conference will last for a total of five days. The first two days we will have pre-conference tutorials followed by three days of parallel session presentations. Each session will have seven speakers presenting 15 minute papers.
The 1st International Conference on the Human Side of Service Engineering will be held during the same time and in the same hotel as the 4th International Applied Human Factors and Ergonomics Conference (http://www.ahfe2012.org/files/CFP_2012_10.pdf). About 1,200+ registrants are expected at the 2012 International Applied HF/E conference. Those who register for any affiliated conference attend any of the sessions at any of the conferences, including the one we are planning on the Human Side of Service Engineering at no additional fee.
The Conference topic is extraordinary, the potential relevance is very high, and the San Francisco location is a world class example of excellence in service and setting.

For further information, please contact Conference Co-Chairs :
Professor Louis E. Freund ( Louis.Freund@sjsu.edu ) or Dr. James C. Spohrer (spohrer@us.ibm.com)
