2012 Symposium on Human Factors and Ergonomics in Health Care The objective of the symposium is to bring together human factors/ergonomics professionals and other stakeholders in both the scientific and practice realms of the health-care community and to bridge knowledge gaps among them. HF/E professionals will present the latest research, best practices, and case histories. The symposium will address a variety of topics and perspectives in health-care human factors/ergonomics, organized along three main tracks: • Patient and Health-Care Provider Safety Specific topics may include emergency room management, patient handling, public health, home health care, electronic health records, health-care information systems, medical information technology, design of medicine/drug delivery devices, usability testing, and regulatory requirements. The Minerva Research Initiative Competition Minerva is a university-based social science basic research program initiated by the Department of Defense in 2008 to improve fundamental understanding of the social, cultural, behavioral, and political forces that shape regions of the world of strategic importance to the US. In 2009 seven large university consortia and 17 smaller projects were awarded Minerva grants, with research still underway. A new competition seeking white papers and full proposals is now open.
