AHFE 2014 location: Historic Krakow |
The 5th International Conference on Applied Human Factors and Ergonomics 2014 will be held in Kraków , Poland.
Kraków is the second largest and one of the oldest cities in Poland. Situated on the Wisla River in a valley at the foot of the Carpathian Mountains. The city dates back to the 7th century. Kraków has traditionally been one of the leading centers of Polish academic, cultural, and artistic life and is one of Poland's most important economic hubs. Its Old City (Stare Miasto) is home to about six thousand Renaissance, Baroque and Gothi buildings and more than two million works of art.
Developed over many centuries, Kraków provides a showcase setting for many historic styles of architecture. As the city expanded, so too did the architectural achievements of its builders. It is for this reason that the variations in style and urban planning are so easily recognizable. Built from its nucleus (the city center) outwards, and having escaped much of the destruction endured by Poland during 20th-century wars, Kraków's many architectural monuments can typically be seen in historical order by simply walking from the city center out towards its later districts.
Kraków's historic center, which includes the Old Town, Kazimierz and the Wawel Castle, was included as the first of its kind on the list of UNESCO World Heritage Sites in 1978.
